Gerard Soames


Gerard Soames is a qualified Chartered Accountant with a 30-year track record of managing strategic change, developing businesses, building high performance teams, and delivering results across a diverse range of industries and cultures.

In his first years as professional, Gerard held various senior finance / project management roles across top-tier companies such as KPMG, Brown & Root Halliburton, Tetra Pak and Credit Suisse (CS).  Initially Gerard was hired by CS First Boston as the Head of Back Office for its operations across the Former CIS. After the merger with Credit Suisse, Gerard successfully ran a programme to rationalise a substantial portfolio of real estate and thereafter ran the programme to list CS on the NYSE. Gerard left CS to become the Financial Director of one of the first Dot.Com marketplaces in the UK backed by GE Equity and Hewlett Packard.

Since then, Gerard has been providing management consultancy services across the world, focused on business building, corporate restructuring, and turnaround. Between 2010 and 2013, Gerard ran a transformational / cross functional programme for the Royal Mail group, delivering £800m of sustainable bottom-line savings in the run up to its privatisation. He has subsequently co-founded and built two successful logistics companies servicing the boom in internet sales.

In parallel, Gerard advised the Uganda Children’s Trust Fund (charity for underprivileged children), acting as Trustee, Treasurer, and later CEO till 2018 when it was merged with Street Child.

Gerard graduated with a B.Bus.Sci (Hons) and Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from Cape Town University prior to qualifying as a CA (SA).
